Adolf Krischanitz was born 1946 in Schwarzach/Pongau in the Austrian federal province of Salzburg, the son of an electrical engineer and a housewife. His father worked for the Austrian Federal Railways on the construction of power stations and transformers. He had very good technical skills, and continued to climb the railway hierarchy.
