Alison (Sheffield 22.6.1928-1993) and Peter (Stockton-on-Tees, Durham, 18.9.1923) Smithson were leading figures in the international architecture and urban planning scene of the 1950s and 1960s, as well as being promoters of an intellectual approach that was pragmatic, anti-rhetorical and experimental, as exemplified in their work with Team X. They married in 1949 and opened a studio together in London. > NEXT
